FEW started with Fyringsvakta.
The first was made in the garage in Bodø. Since then, a few hundred have been produced, through several revisions and with dedicated production tooling. Fyringsvakta has travelled the length of Norway, been used on expeditions in the Arctic, and has now been sold to a foreign military branch operating in Arctic winter conditions.
My name is Peder Steinvik, and I am a mechanic and mechanical engineer. FEW is my company for developing and manufacturing my own products.
Alongside Fyringsvakta, I work on product development and custom solutions for demanding environments. These are usually small, specific problems where a standard solution either doesn’t exist or isn’t good enough.
Fyringsvakta is the first one.
FYRINGSVAKTA
Fyringsvakta is an aluminium enclosure for multifuel stoves. It was developed after I got tired of plastic cases cracking in the cold.
The enclosure raises the stove above the tent floor and sleeping pads, and shields it from tent fabric, equipment and people. This allows the stove to be positioned more safely in an otherwise confined tent, while remaining accessible for operation and inspection.
Fyringsvakta is made from aluminium and has been refined through practical use and testing over several revisions.
Jakob Bakke took Fyringsvakta with him on a winter expedition along the entire length of Norway in 2026. Anders Brenna used it for 50 days in the Northwest Passage in the winter of 2025, and Bengt Are Barstad has used his throughout the 2000 Dager Ute project. In the winter of 2026, Fyringsvakta was also used during NATO’s Winter Instructor Course.
Over 250 units have been produced so far.
